Little Voices for Life

from WorldMag.com
by Janie B. Cheaney

The longtime host of Weekend Edition on NPR, Scott Simon, occasionally pens an editorial for The Wall Street Journal. His latest, published Dec. 17, addresses a timeless issue: “The Case for Adoption.”

“This is the season that begins with the story of a couple who wanted a baby,” Simon writes. His opening sentence earns no points for biblical insight, but Simon’s personal experience of wanting a baby is deeply felt. He married late, and he and his wife discovered quickly that they were not able to conceive. They considered assisted fertilization, but as well-traveled individuals they knew first-hand that there are plenty of orphans needing homes. They adopted Elise from Nanchang, China, when she was 11 months old. Six years later they returned for Lina. While he faults no couples or pregnant women for the personal choices they make, he wants to promote an option that has been deeply satisfying for him, his wife, and their daughters. That’s the reason for his latest book, Baby We Were Meant For Each Other: In Praise of Adoption.

I’m very glad the Simons made their decision—but not just because it was so fulfilling for them. Without saying a word, the two little girls make a powerful statement. Their story reminds me of another adoption story I heard several years ago at a fund-raising dinner for the local crisis pregnancy center.

Merry Christmas?

Just when you thought “pro-choice” Christmas cards were the final frontier, some Planned Parenthood affiliates are now offering gift certificates. Gift certificates offered by PP cannot be used for abortions, only for birth control, educational materials, etc. Read more here.

Here is Metro Women’s Center’s Christmas card – affirming life, not destroying it!

In the News ...

Closed Abortion Centers
According to Operation Rescue, 31 abortion businesses closed in the last 12 months while 9 new abortion facilities opened. A total of 689 surgical abortion clinics remain in the U.S., down from a high of almost 2,200 in 1991, which means more than two-thirds of abortion centers have closed that were operating nearly 20 years ago. [LifeNews.com]

Comment:
First, we need to be in prayer that the 7 abortion facilities in Minnesota will stop providing abortion services to women in our state. Second, be in prayer that Regions Hospital will stop providing abortions at its HealthPartners clinic located in the hospital. Additionally, Planned Parenthood is preparing to build its new mega-abortion center at the corner of Charles and Vandalia. It appears that some of the workers who are helping ready the site are unaware that they are building an abortuary (killing center).

Pro-Life Nurse Denied Legal Recourse
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Monday that a pro-life employee has no legal recourse if forced by an employer to assist in an abortion. Catherina Cenzon-DeCarlo, a former nurse at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, said she was forced to participate in an abortion against her will and threatened with disciplinary action if she did not assist in the "emergency late-term abortion." The Alliance Defense Fund, representing DeCarlo, later learned that the abortion was not an emergency and that the patient was not in crisis at the time of the procedure. When she attempted to sue the hospital, alleging it had violated the federal "Church Amendment," a lower court ruled that the law does not provide recourse for individuals who experience discrimination. The amendment was intended to protect health care workers of federally funded businesses from being discriminated against when refusing to participate in abortions on religious grounds. [CitizenLink.com]

Comment: There may come a time when we are ordered to disobey the Lord regarding life issues. Here are some examples we can meditate on for encouragement:

Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife
Genesis 39:7-12
And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her. And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within. And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

Hebrew Midwives
Exodus 1:15-17
And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

Birth of Moses
Exodus 1:22; 2:1-3
And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive. And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink.

Peter
Acts 5:29
Then Peter and the apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Yet ANOTHER clinic -- CLOSED!

In Seattle the first and second 40 Days campaigns took place in front of the Planned Parenthood facility nearest the University of Washington," said Aaron, who led those campaigns in Seattle.

During the second campaign, that center stopped doing surgical abortions. Planned Parenthood then put the facility up for rent -- and now their web site confirms this location is permanently CLOSED!

"God is good," said Aaron, "and He honors prayer!"

The abortion facility in Sacramento, California that was the site of a 40 Days for Life campaign this fall is also struggling right now ...

The clinic manager and two other clinic employees were just laid off by the clinic owner due to "dwindling finances" at the clinic.

"Their client numbers were dropping," said Wynette, the 40 Days for Life leader in Sacramento, "so budget cuts had to be made."

Wynette added, "The clinic manager did tell me that only three employees remain and that they are open for business, but that business is REALLY down."

Members of the 40 Days for Life team have offered to assist the three former workers, knowing it isn't easy to be without a job as Thanksgiving and Christmas are approaching.

Wynette also said, "we continue to pray for conversion of hearts and minds, so that this employment layoff becomes a life-long detachment from the abortion industry."

Those are just two more breaking news stories that show why it is so important for the work of 40 Days for Life to keep growing.

To hear a short, inspiring audio recording of three more of this fall's local 40 Days for Life campaigns sharing the blessings they experienced (including another abortion facility closing) go to: http://40daysforlife.com/blog/?p=1436

Battle for baby’s life won by ADF-allied attorneys

AUSTIN, Texas — The parents of a 16-year-old girl represented by Alliance Defense Fund allied attorneys signed a court order Wednesday agreeing to not force their daughter to have an abortion against her will. This came about slightly more than a week after the ADF-allied attorneys secured a temporary restraining order (TRO) from a Texas court to block the parents from making their daughter go to an abortion facility to terminate the life of their pre-born grandchild.

The teenager’s mother forcefully brought her on two occasions to local abortion facilities, demanding that her daughter terminate the life of her child. Though she refused, and the child’s father also does not want an abortion, her parents insisted that she have the abortion. The TRO granted last week prevented the parents from such coercion before they agreed to sign a long-term court order prohibiting them from forcing their daughter to have an abortion for the duration of her pregnancy.

“No one should be allowed to decide that an innocent life--especially one that belongs to someone else--is worthless,” said Stephen Casey of Round Rock, one of more than 1,800 attorneys in the ADF alliance. Gregory R. Terra of Georgetown, the other ADF-allied attorney involved in the case, agreed, “The parents made the right decision, one which they, their daughter, the baby’s father, and especially their grandchild, will appreciate.” Casey and Terra, along with Allan E. Parker of The Justice Foundation in San Antonio, secured the parents’ signatures on the latest order before having it signed and validated Thursday by a district judge.

MWC 20th Annual Event a BIG Blessing

November 4th was an evening of praise and thanksgiving to the Lord for His provision for MWC over the past 20 years!

More than 260 guests attended the dessert buffet, silent auction, and ministry celebration. Over $14,000 was raised for the Amazing Grace Maternity Home fund, and another $4,000 was raised for MWC's general fund.

The Sauerkraut String Band and Josh Bauder shared their music with us, and Pastor Max Day reminded us that a baby is a baby, murder is wrong, and God will hold us accountable for doing nothing to stop abortion in our land.

Clients and volunteers shared testimonies of God’s grace and mercy their lives and how rewarding it is to help others who are in need.

Thanks to all who participated, prayed, and donated items for the auction and/or funds for the ministry!

U.S. Teens Lose in Obama Administration’s Sex Education Agenda

U.S. Teens Lose in Obama Administration’s Sex Education Agenda

The truth is that if you don’t have sex, you don’t have to worry about an unwanted pregnancy or a sexually transmitted infection. Why can’t we give that message to young people with as much vigor as we give out the "no drugs," "no smoking," and "no alcohol" messages? Don’t be afraid, speak up, because young people deserve the truth. Even though they might reject it, they still deserve it!

Please Close These Abortion Clinics!

Here is some interesting information about “who” the abortionists in our country are: Operation Rescue’s investigation reveals Brigham’s AWS abortion chain is a haven for rapist, other criminals.

Please pray that women are able to see that many abortion doctors are not the “cream of the crop” and that women will put their health and safely above the "need" to have an abortion.

A Word from the Word: Life

Received a precious note from our friend, Jim White, about the event last evening:

Last evening Barbara and I attended the 20th Annual Meeting of the Metro Women’s Center in northwest Minneapolis. It was an evening of rejoicing in God’s hand of direction on this oasis of life in the midst of the horror of abortion.

We heard testimonies of changed lives as ladies recounted the blessings of choosing life over death. Pastor Max Day, who did the preaching, gave five bedrock statements that must never be forgotten in this struggle.

1. An unborn baby is a baby.
2. God is the giver of life.
3. Man is made in God’s image.
4. The taking of any life is still murder.
5. God will hold us accountable for doing nothing.

Barbara and I are giving an additional 10% to the Center from our website barbarasbasketsandbears.com through the end of the year. Or, if you would like to go to their website, you may give directly to the ministry.

Or if there is a biblical “Crisis Pregnancy Center” in your area, I would encourage you to get involved with prayer or financial help to these frontline warriors for life.

New Film 'Blood Money' Reveals the Business Behind Abortion

BloodMoney is a documentary film narrated by Dr. Alveda King, which exposes the truth behind the Abortion Industry from the Pro Life perspective.

The film examines the history of abortion in America. From the inception of Planned Parenthood and the profitability of abortion clinics, to Roe v. Wade, to the denial of when life begins, the fight to save the lives of innocent babies, and the devastating effects it has had on the women that have exercised this "choice".

Standing Together So No One Stands Alone!

Saturday was a beautiful day in Mankato at the City Wide Respect Life Event. Three of us traveled to the Ray Erlandson Park and participated in a prayer service where we shared our testimonies about the devastating effects abortion had on our lives and about the mercy of the Lord to forgive us of taking the lives of our children through abortion. More than 30 people, young and old, then joined us for a march around to park with our “I Regret My Abortion” and “Women Deserve Better Than Abortion” signs. It was a wonderful day to share the truth with the young people and to be a public witness to the after-effects of abortion. The two other speakers - who both aborted in their early twenties - have never been able to conceive another child. So much for the lie that “you can have another baby someday.”

Amazing Grace Home donation

We were the recipient of a $6,835 from a donor whose relative had passed away. The gift was undesignated, so I put $3,000 towards the Amazing Grace Home and the rest for general fund.

What a way to end the year! We have been so blessed this year, and I am overwhelmed by all that the Lord has allowed us to experience.

40 Days for Life Twin Cities

Wednesday, September 22 - Sunday, October 31

Coordinated by Pro-Life Action Ministries at HealthPartners' Regions Hospital, 640 Jackson Street, Saint Paul MN 55101. HealthPartners' Regions Hospital committed almost 700 abortions last year in its "GYN Special Services" unit. Regions is unusual because it has a self-contained abortion unit within the hospital. That's why many individuals, churches, and community organizations have committed to pray and fast at the hospital in peaceful vigil for the end of abortion at Regions and the Twin Cities region. Join Pro-Life Action Ministries and be a part of the world-wide 40 Days for Life movement along with over 307 cities, in all 50 states, 6 Canadian provinces, and communities in Northern Ireland and Denmark for the world's largest coordinated movement to pray for the end of abortion. This is not a Catholic issue; this is a LIFE ISSUE! Please pray and do what you can to help end abortion in our communities.

Pro-Life Movement on Fire in the States

from The Washington Flyer

While the abortion debate seems to be fading from the national platform, several states have taken on the fight to protect the unborn. Alaska made history this past week after voters passed a parental notification law, mandating a minor notify her parents before an abortion is administered. This marked the first time in history a parental notification law was passed by voters and not by the state’s legislature. The measure passed with 55% of the vote.

Alaska is not the only state turning to voters rather than its legislature to ensure protections for life. Colorado has also begun a massive campaign to urge voters to support a personhood amendment to the state’s constitution. The amendment defines a “person” as any human being beginning at conception through natural death. In order to garner support, a website dedicated to the ballot initiative MyCampaignTracker.org was created and designed to “encourage the grassroots personhood movement in Colorado” and “to reach local communities across our state with our campaign message of ‘Persons not Property,’ through November’s election.” The campaign has seen overwhelming support from pro-lifers in the state as well as from many candidates seeking election.

South Carolina and Virginia have also been supportive of the pro-life movement. South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford signed into law H3245, a bill that would require a 24-hour waiting period for a woman seeking an abortion and would require that the doctor offer the woman an opportunity to look at an ultrasound of the child before an abortion. In Virginia, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli stated this week that abortion clinics will now be legally regulated just as any other medical establishment. Brian J. Gottstein, a spokesman for Mr. Cuccinelli stated, “The state has long regulated outpatient surgical facilities and personnel to ensure a certain level of protection for patients. There is no reason to hold facilities providing abortion services to any lesser standard for their patients. Even pharmacies, funeral homes and veterinary clinics are regulated by the state.”

While the economy and jobs have dominated the federal debate, the pro-life movement continues to gain support among constituents at the state level, winning major victories throughout the nation.

Fraudulent Billing by Planned Parenthood

On Friday, the New Jersey Right to Life released three separate audits conducted by the U.S. Inspector General for the Department of Health and Human Services, which show that state Planned Parenthood providers have been over-billing the federal government. The audits, conducted between 2001 and 2005, found that nearly $3 million should have been refunded to the government. Clinics improperly billed everything from prescription medications to outpatient services. [CitizenLink.com, 8-19-2010]

Comment:

I find it so interesting that when Planned Parenthood “serves” women that they charge them, their insurance, or the government for their services. MWC and hundreds of pregnancy care centers around the country serve women and their families for FREE. There is no “profit motive” at pregnancy care centers. We are motivated by a love for those we serve, a sense of urgency to protect the lives of the unborn, and a passion to see individuals come to know the Lord in a personal way. Check out www.frc.org to see the first ever report that attempts to assess the good work that is being done by hundreds of pregnancy resource centers in the US and around the world.

This report can also be useful in correcting the attacks on PRCs by organizations like NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League), as they attempt to create negative impressions about pregnancy resource centers. See http://www.fwhc.org/abortion/fake.htm.

I am sure that not every Center is perfect but serving women and men in crisis with integrity and love is at the heart of Metro Women’s Center and other centers like ours.

Blessings at Waterville!

We had a great time at First Baptist Church in Waterville on Sunday, August 8th, even though it was a sweltering hot day!

I had the opportunity to share a message on purity with the women and girls in the church, about 60 ladies all together. We had a great time around God’s Word.

One of my clients came and shared her testimony with the church folks about choosing open adoption for her son and about her experiences in one of our shepherding homes. I am always encouraged when our clients are willing to publically share their stories because it can be an encouragement to others who may be privately struggling with the same issues or who may need to “see” the reality of someone’s life being changed by God. Many of our clients are “works in process,” (aren’t we all?) and this young lady has made some great changes in her life but has not yet yielded to the Lord. Please pray for her salvation.

Above is a picture of my client when she was still pregnant. She was able to balance her cup on her tummy, something that is not hard when you are 10 months pregnant (she was 2 weeks overdue!). Below is a picture of her and her adoptive family -- what a blessing to see love extended through open adoption!

I was able to thank the folks at the church for their ongoing support and to give them a report of the goings on at the Center. When a missionary comes to speak, they have a practice at the church that after the presentation, members of the church come to the platform and pray for the ministry represented. Pastor Gene Witte is the pastor there, and his prayer is that the Lord would raise up more godly men for leadership positions in the church so that those coming to the church could be ministered to individually. First Baptist Church is celebrating 150 years of ministry this year!

Encouragement: I'm Yours (ukulele)

Just when you think you have seen the "cutest kid ever," along comes another one to make you smile.

This little guy makes me think of all the potential that that has been lost by abortion in the past almost 40 years. He inspires me to keep fighting the good fight for the lives of children. We are crazy to continue destroying lives in the face of so much truth -- we are blinded by our own shortsightedness. Lord, please help us not to take even one life for granted. We lose so much when we lose one life. (Thanks to my friend, Liz, for sharing this clip.)

Encouragement: Robby's Story

from James White:

This is a beautiful, touching, and true story of love and perseverance. Well worth the read, it will give you chills.

At the prodding of my friends, I am writing this story. My name is Mildred Honor, and I am a former elementary school music teacher from Des Moines, Iowa. For over 30 years I have supplemented my income by teaching piano lessons.

During those years I found that children have many levels of musical ability, and even though I have never had the pleasure of having a prodigy, I have taught some very talented students. However, I have also had my share of what I call 'musically challenged' pupils - one such pupil being Robby.

Robby was 11 years old when his mother (a single mom) dropped him off for his first piano lesson. I prefer that students (especially boys) begin at an earlier age, which I explained to Robby. But Robby said that it had always been his dream, so I took him as a student.

Well, Robby began his piano lessons, and from the beginning I thought it was a hopeless endeavor. As much as Robby tried, he lacked the sense of tone and basic rhythm needed to excel. But he dutifully reviewed his scales and some elementary piano pieces that I require all my students to learn.

Over the months he tried and tried while I listened and cringed and tried to encourage him.

At the end of each weekly lesson he would always say, "My mom's going to hear me play someday," but to me, it seemed hopeless. He just did not have any inborn ability.

I only knew his mother from a distance as she dropped Robby off or waited in her aged car to pick him up. She always waved and smiled, but never dropped in.

Then one day Robby stopped coming for his lessons. I thought about calling him, but assumed that because of his lack of ability, he had decided to pursue something else. I was also glad that he had stopped coming - he was a bad advertisement for my teaching!

Several weeks later I mailed a flyer recital to the students' homes. To my surprise, Robby (who had received a flyer) asked me if he could be in the recital. I told him that the recital was for current pupils and that because he had dropped out, he really did not qualify. He told me that his mother had been sick and unable to take him to his piano lessons, but that he had been practicing. "Please, Miss Honor, I've just got to play," he insisted. I don't know what led me to allow him to play in the recital - perhaps it was his insistence or maybe something inside of me saying that it would be all right.

The night of the recital came and the high school gymnasium was packed with parents, relatives, and friends. I put Robby last in the program, just before I was to come up and thank all the students and play a finishing piece. I thought that any damage he might do would come at the end of the program and I could always salvage his poor performance through my 'curtain closer'.

Well, the recital went off without a hitch. The students had been practicing, and it showed. Then Robby came up on the stage. His clothes were wrinkled, and his hair looked as though he had run an egg beater through it. 'Why wasn't he dressed up like the other students?' I thought. 'Why didn't his mother at least make him comb his hair for this special night?' Robby pulled out the piano bench, and I was surprised when he announced that he had chosen to play Mozart's Concerto No. 21 in C Major. I was not prepared for what I heard next. His fingers were light on the keys, even dancing nimbly on the ivories. He went from pianissimo to fortissimo, from allegro to virtuoso; his suspended chords that Mozart demands were magnificent! Never had I heard Mozart played so well by anyone his age.

After six and a half minutes he ended in a grand crescendo, and everyone was on their feet in wild applause! Overcome and in tears, I ran up on stage and put my arms around Robby in joy. "I have never heard you play like that, Robby. How did you do it?" Through the microphone Robby explained, "Well, Miss Honor .... remember I told you that my mom was sick? Well, she actually had cancer and passed away this morning. And well .... she was born deaf, so tonight was the first time she had ever heard me play, and I wanted to make it special."

There wasn't a dry eye in the house that evening. As the people from Social Services led Robby from the stage to be placed into foster care, I noticed that even their eyes were red and puffy. I thought to myself then how much richer my life had been for taking Robby as my pupil. No, I have never had a prodigy, but that night I became a prodigy ... of Robby. He was the teacher and I was the pupil, for he had taught me the meaning of perseverance and love and believing in yourself, and may be even taking a chance on someone when you don't know why.

Robby was killed years later in the senseless bombing of the Alfred P. Murrow Federal Building in Oklahoma City in April, 1995.

And now, a footnote to the story. So many seemingly trivial interactions present us with a choice: do we act with compassion or do we pass up that opportunity and leave the world a bit colder in the process?

If we cannot seek God in quiet moments of our lives, we are not likely to find Him when trouble strikes. We are more likely to panic.

40 Days of Prayer: Day 40

Praying today for women and girls who are victims of incest, specifically those who become pregnant and are forced to have secret abortions, to have the strength to expose the abuser and to stand against the abortion of their baby.

Video: Hand in Hand

Dave Sebald, MWC board member, passes along this amazing video.
He says, "This is a very encouraging and beautiful presentation.
It is sad that many children are aborted because they are missing an arm or a leg, yet these young people have not allowed their missing limb to stop them from shining!"

Happy birthday, Colleen!

MWC wishes a very happy birthday to our wonderful, godly, self-sacrificing director, Colleen Tronson!

We pray God's richest blessings for you and your family, Colleen! Thank you for your unmatched contributions to the ministry of Metro Women's Center, for your sacrificial love to our clients, and for your faithful leadership for almost 20 years.

40 Days of Prayer: Day 39

Praying today for the friends or relatives of a pregnant woman who have encouraged, supported, or in some cases forced/coerced her to have an abortion, to recognize their part in the death of a child and seek the Lord’s forgiveness for their participation. Also praying for the spiritual return of those who were once walking with the Lord but have turned away from their relationship with Him through their involvement in an abortion.

Today's Turning Point from David Jeremiah

Twelve Feet of Criticism

"Miriam and Aaron criticized Moses because of the Cushite woman he married."
Numbers 12:1 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

In May of 1922, when the famous rescue mission in Chicago, the Pacific Garden Mission, had to relocate from Van Buren Street to 650 South State Street, a firestorm of criticism erupted. Some who had been converted at the old location refused to move. "Do you see that plank right there on the platform?" asked one converted alcoholic. "Twelve years ago my tears fell there when Jesus saved me." The reaction was so emotional that mission leaders wisely hired carpenters to take out a twelve-foot square from the platform and move it to the new location.

In church life and in our personal relationships, we can react strongly and critically at something we don't like. Often our response is more emotional than thoughtful, and we sometimes heap criticism on people who are themselves under pressure. We make their work harder.

When someone is leading or when they're struggling, why do people add to their burden by second-guessing their decisions? Our goal should be to encourage others at all costs. Get hold of your critical reactions, and prayerfully try to be an encourager.

Fault-finding is dreadfully catching; one dog will set a whole kennel howling.
Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Encouragement at work!

Well, since we're focusing on encouragment in August, I want to tell you about two wonderful encouragement responses this week! One was a great big hug and an “I’m praying for you” from a dear sister in the Lord, and the other was from a client who said she really “appreciated all that MWC did for her and hoped that [we] could continue to help other women in need.” Yipee!

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21

It is so true that the tongue has the power to encourage or discourage and to promote peace or bitterness. It is a little member of the body, but a royal pain when not used properly! We can encourage life and hope with our words and with the WORD!

40 Days of Prayer: Day 37

Praying today for pregnancy care centers all over the world, especially our friend Carolyn in Liberia and her center in Gbonga.

In August, Be an Encouragement!

One of MWC's primary functions is ENCOURAGING people -- encouraging them to choose life for their babies; to choose spiritual life for themselves; and to choose abstinence before and faithfulness in marriage. Every day we are faced with people who are making choices. In one day at the Center this week we saw the following: an abortion-minded woman, a woman with a negative pregnancy test, and a woman trying to decide whether to make an adoption plan for her unborn child -- all had serious choices to make! All required encouragement, and it needed to be more than, "I'm praying for you!"

Everyone needs a little encouragement now and then, don't we? I am so grateful for people who are encouragers. Some write little notes, or send funny cards, or bake cookies and drop them off at the Center. Others write long essays on how to stay positive while battling a negative culture, or send financial donations, or bring in diapers or grocery store gift cards for our clients. Still others offer to come in and volunteer or help out with a particularly challenging client or project. One little boy brought me a baby bottle with a few pennies in it -- talk about encouraging!

I am specifically lifting up our churches and pastors in prayer this next month because I want to not only receive encouragement but to be an encourager as well. So, would you all join me in finding ways during the month of August to BE an encourager to someone else at least once per day? Let me know how it goes, or if you want to do it in secret, that is ok, too!

When faced with discouraging situations or tough choices in life, whether it is pregnancy-related or just with life in general, as Christians, we can rely on the Word of God to help us. Our problems may not disappear or be magically solved, but we can have confidence in the Lord's faithfulness. I love the passage in Ephesians about the armor of God; it is encouraging to me to know that I have all the resources of God's protection for my life and especially the "sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." My struggle is to remember to use the resources of God and not to rely on my own thoughts or plans. Our clients have the same challenge, and even more when they don't know the Lord, or when they know Him but have not been taught how to apply biblical principles to their lives. God is able: I need to remember this myself and communicate it to our clients.

Praise Visit!

We had visitors at the office today--one of our new babies born on the Fourth of July! Her parents say, “Thanks for all the help with baby items!”

Crystal Frolics: A Wonderful Opportunity!

We had a table at this year's Crystal Frolics over the July 24th weekend as a way to raise awareness in the community about MWC’s services! We had a great time. Thanks to Lindsay and Diana for helping with the day!

We made many contacts. One woman came back after talking to us and donated a bunch of nice baby items! A young pregnant couple stopped by. I was able to let them know about our HOPE program, and they were thrilled to be able to get some needed items for their baby. They even took a brochure to check out a local church and allowed me to share the Gospel with them. Another lady came by who had a previous abortion situation heavy on her heart. I was able to pray with her and for her!

We handed out balloons for the children and were able to distribute some Bibles! What a blessing! We even received some donations for the Amazing Grace Home and gave out some promotional CDs! Thanks for a beautiful day, Lord!

If you need a little encouragement, read this!

Ephesians 6:10-13
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

As a part of Christ’s Army, you march in the ranks of gallant spirits. Every one of your fellow soldiers is the child of a King.

Some, like you, are in the midst of the battle, besieged on every side by affliction and temptation.

Others, after repulsing many assaults and rallying their faith, are already standing upon the wall of Heaven as conquerors. From there they look down and urge you, their comrades on earth, to march up the hill after them. This is their cry:
“Fight to the death, and the City is your own, as now it is ours! For the waging of a few days’ conflict, you will be rewarded with Heaven’s glory. One moment of this celestial joy will dry up all your tears, heal all your wounds, and remove the sharpness of the fight with the joy of your permanent victory!
. . . And if the fight should be too much for you, your dear Savior stands by with reserves for your relief at a moment’s notice. He will not forget your faithfulness – and when you come off the field, He will receive you as joyously as the Father received Him upon His return to Heaven!”

(William Gurnall, The Christian in Complete Armor, p. 27)

40 Days of Prayer: Day 21

Praying today for the grandparents and other relatives of babies who were aborted. Families often try to stop an abortion being done by a loved one, but when they are unsuccessful in their efforts, there can be lots of sorrow. Teen Put Newborn in Trash Bag After Giving Birth

www.breitbart.tv

This situation is one reason why we need to remove the social stigma of adoption in our society. This young woman obviously was in major denial, but if someone could have offered her the option of adoption and helped her to see that adoption could have provided a win/win situation for herself and her baby, the outcome could have been so different. Instead everyone loses.

The "safe harbor" idea, while well-intentioned, takes away the mother's role in planning for her child's future proactively, and continues to victimize the children by leaving them without any social and medical history and so without any way to connect with a birth family in the future. Rather than helping a woman manage her pregnancy crisis with courage and forethought, it sends the message that only "good" mothers "keep" their children or solve their pregnancy "problem" via abortion, while "bad" mothers must leave their children, under cover of darkness, at some random hospital or fire station and slink away into the night. It is as though admitting that parenting right now is not the right choice for them is the unpardonable sin, and that abortion is just a sad but necessary choice. Is anyone else blown away by this illogical thinking?

Abortion is promoted and women who choose it are heralded as having successfully handled a major life crisis with great love for themselves and their blobs of tissue. Yet women who proactively make adoption plans are shamed and have their "love" for their baby questioned. As a birth mother myself, I was often asked, "How could you have possibly given your baby away?' My answer is this: "I did not 'give my baby away.' I planned for his future by choosing adoption, and I did it for his good. I did not throw him in the garbage or put him out on the lawn with a 'for sale sign' or drop him off somewhere hoping that someone would care for him. I planned for him. I am proud (not in a haughty way) of my decision to choose adoption, and I will not allow anyone to shame me for it. I am grateful to and proud of every birth parent who has had the courage to choose adoption for their children."

It is so bizarre to me that I have never once had anyone challenge my decision to have three abortions prior to giving birth to my birth son. I have never once had anyone ask me, "How could you possibly have paid somebody money to kill your baby? How could you possibly have allowed them t0 throw your babies in the garbage or flush them down the drain?" It is unacceptable in 2010 that we applaud women who abort and deride women who choose adoption. We need to de-stigmatize adoption and re-stigmatize abortion!

If this Nevada teen had just quietly aborted her child, she would have suffered the loss of her baby in private. But now she will suffer the loss of her baby in the most ugly public way--in the court of public opinion and in the media. People will begin to say, "If only she would have had an abortion, her life could have been ok." There is no guarantee that her life would have been ok. Now, she has drawn us into her crisis, by making us face the death of a child head on. We don't like it when people "murder" in public; it makes us uncomfortable because it is so real.

Before we judge her in the court of public opinion, or anywhere for that matter, those of us who have aborted for convenience sake should ask ourselves,"How are we different from her?" Oh, we paid someone else to do it and we did it in private, so that makes perfect sense! Really? Where is the line between a choice and a crime? Can the same courts that uphold a woman's right to "choose" also be used to "convict" a woman of the death of her child at the moment of birth. Is her crime a crime? Or is her crime the fact that she did not pay an abortionist to do the job for her and and that she did it in a very public, messy way?

It is all so sad, her life is changed, the baby is dead, and her family is being besieged with media wanting to know WHY? The media should leave the poor girl alone and go to the abortion mills and ask every women coming out after an abortion, WHY? The answers would most likely be financial reasons or relationship problems or rarely, medical issues. Then they should go and stand outside hospitals as birth parents leave after placing their newborns in the arms of adoptive parents, and ask WHY? The answer would most often be,"Because we love our child."

Self or sacrifice? Two completely different ends of the spectrum, which will we serve? Praying for this young women and her family is the best we can do. I hope we can learn something from this tragedy.

40 Days of Prayer: Day 10

Praying today for the staffs of pregnancy care centers in the USA to be encouraged in their life-affirming work and trust the Lord for every outcome.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

40 Days of Prayer: Day 9

Praying today for people of “faith” who are supportive of abortion to recognize that they are being deceived about their support of abortion and turn from their involvement.

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

40 Days of Prayer: Day 8

Praying today for the nurses who are involved in abortion to stop their involvement because of a change in their hearts.

Monday, June 21, 2010

40 Days of Prayer: Day 7

Praying today for the families of those experiencing unplanned pregnancies to offer love and support rather than judgment and criticism.

Friday, June 18, 2010

40 Days of Prayer: Day 6

Praying today for people of “faith” who support abortion to would recognize that they are being deceived about their support of abortion and turn from their involvement.

Click here to view videos of a "Christian Pastor," "Jewish Rabbi," and an "ethical leader" explaining why their "faith traditions" support the abortion decisions of women.

Note that the "Christian" leader omits the last part of the story about the woman caught in adultery. She speaks of Jesus defending the woman against her accusers but fails to finish Jesus' admonition to her to "go and sin no more." Jesus never said it was okay to kill an unborn child to protect yourself, and Paul encourages us not to use our "liberty" against one another but to instead "love our neighbors as ourselves."

"For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:13-14

All of the leaders in the videos appear to be encouraging those considering abortion to love themselves through this "difficult" decision without regard for the other person involved in the crisis. And please don't point out the situations where women's lives are in danger because of a challenging pregnancy situation where they "choose" abortion to solve the problem. Those are tough cases, but rarely does abortion threaten the life of the mother to the point of death. The vast majority of abortons are done for convenience, economic, or relationship reasons.

The presentations of these "clergy" remind me of the slick deception of Satan in the garden when he posed this question to Eve: “Has God indeed said . . . ?" (Genesis 3).

40 Days of Prayer: Day 5

Day 5
Praying today for the non-medical staff and clinic escorts involved in abortion to stop their involvement because of a change in their hearts.

Planned Parenthood is planning to build a new MEGA abortion facility in St. Paul this summer. Planned Parenthood is a multi-million-dollar-a-year organization about to receive a windfall in our federal tax dollars from the healthcare reform law. As a "community health center," Planned Parenthood of Minnesota will be a large recipient of the $11 billion the government will be handing out to these centers starting October 2011. Below is a fundraising appeal letter from Planned Parenthood bemoaning the presence of peaceful pro-life protesters at the site of the new clinic.

"Just last month, Planned Parenthood announced its plans to build a new flagship health care center in St. Paul. As we expected, our opponents are not pleased with our plans. In fact, last week Pro Life Action Ministries and other anti-choice groups held their first protests near our new site. We know that this is just the beginning.

While the anti-choicers begin to gather and protest against our efforts, we know there are PLENTY of people who stand with Planned Parenthood.

People from all over Minnesota have visited our website, www.standwithpp.org, to share their story of support. It has been amazing to see the outpouring of support and we encourage you to check out the messages people are leaving. It's very inspiring!

When visiting our website, we hope you will click on the "Speak Out" image to share your own story of why you support Planned Parenthood. Let's show the opposition that we have strength in numbers!

By the time we formally begin construction later this summer, we would like to have more than 5,000 online supporters. Help show your solidarity and support for Planned Parenthood by going to www.standwithpp.org today!

Be sure to tell your friends and bookmark the site so you can watch our progress. Real-time video feeds and updates of the building construction will begin mid-summer.

Thank you so much for your support!"

40 Days of Prayer: Day 4

Day 4
Praying today that fear would not drive the choice to abort a pregnancy for anyone, whether the parties involved are married or single, young or old.

So many times, the decision to abort a baby comes within 72 hours after finding out about the pregnancy. This tendency to act quickly to “solve” the “problem” is not usually the best way to proceed. What a person typically feels about a pregnancy, especially an unplanned pregnancy, is initially fear and panic. Those are emotions that don’t take into account the long–term consequences of the choice.

Some wisdom from the Lord:
1. Don’t let fear drive your choices.
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” I John 4:18
2. Don’t make a decision before you have all the facts - not opinions, but facts.
“He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him.” Proverbs 18:13

Abortion Recovery Billboard Goes Up

My dear friend Ann Marie Cosgrove, director of Silent No More Minnesota, has been diligently working to get this billboard erected on Highway 94 east for several months now. It is finally up and Jill Stanek, pro life blogger, has posted it on her blog! This billboard will offer help to people suffering from the aftermath of abortion. Please pray that it will be an effective tool for offering positive hope and help to post-abortive men and women.

40 Days of Prayer Over the Summer

I have been struggling with being bitter at those who are involved in the practice of abortion. I have even found myself angry at the men and women who have abortions, which is not usual for me. I think that the massiveness of the task of reducing the number of abortions (Dare I say praying for the end of all abortions?) has been overwhelming me lately.

I know, intellectually, that we only do so much to help a person choose life over death. I know, spiritually, that the heart of the individual involved must turn from thinking only of self to thinking about the other “person” involved in her challenging pregnancy situation.

According to the statistics for abortion in Minnesota, the main reasons for abortion are economic, do not want children at this time, and the nebulous “other” category.

Reason for Abortion*, 2008 Occurring in MN; MN Residents
Pregnancy was a result of rape 76; 67
Pregnancy was a result of incest 12; 12
Economic reasons 4,254; 3,984
Does not want children at this time 9,368; 8,675
Emotional health is at stake 848; 792
Physical Health is at stake 627; 574
Continued pregnancy will cause impairment of major bodily function 34; 29
Pregnancy resulted in fetal anomalies 150; 134
Unknown or the woman refused to answer 1,440; 1,264
Other stated reason 2,891; 2,629

This shows me that the main reasons for abortion are based on fear and selfishness. I know this from personal experience so I am not trying to judge anyone, just making an observation.

So, as a way to refocus my thoughts towards positive action, I have decided that I need an attitude adjustment. To that end I am going to pray through this for 40 days, praying each day for a certain aspect of this issue. Would you please join me in doing so? I started this a couple of days ago, so here are the first 3 days of prayer requests:

Day 1
1. Praying today for all women who are just finding out about a pregnancy, that they would fall in love with their babies.

Day 2
2. Praying today for all men who are just finding out about a pregnancy, that they would fall in love with their babies.

Day 3
3. Praying today for abortion clinic doctors that they would turn from the practice of abortion.

Planned Parenthood growing at taxpayer expense

New St. Paul location will be the state’s largest abortion center

ST.PAUL -- Planned Parenthood announced plans today to build the state's largest abortion center in St. Paul 's Midway neighborhood, home to Hamline University , Concordia University , growing ethnic populations and the future Central Corridor light-rail line. Already Minnesota 's largest abortionist, Planned Parenthood expects to greatly expand its business under the new Obama health care law.

"We're not surprised to see Planned Parenthood position itself to receive millions more taxpayer dollars under President Obama's new health care mandates," said Scott Fischbach , Executive Director of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL). "Obama's intent has always been to pour much more public money into Planned Parenthood, and the Minnesota affiliate is poised to build an enormous receptacle for that money."

Planned Parenthood Minnesota's 46,000-square-foot building project is part of the national organization's strategy of building massive abortion centers in major urban areas. Its 78,000-square-foot Houston center, for example, set to open May 11, is being called the largest abortion center in the Western Hemisphere. Similarly colossal centers have opened in Chicago and elsewhere.

Planned Parenthood Foundation of America hailed the passage of Obama's pro-abortion health care overhaul as "a huge victory." The nation's largest abortion business raked in a record $1.038 billion in revenues in 2007 (latest figures), including a staggering $349 million in taxpayer dollars in the form of federal and state government grants and contracts. Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, which includes 25 Minnesota "feeder" clinics to send women to St. Paul for abortions, received $5.26 million from federal, state, and local governments in 2008.

The new health care law offers it even more. Not only does the law subsidize health plans that cover abortion, it also opens the door to direct federal funding of abortions at so-called Community Health Centers. The law appropriates $11 billion over five years to approximately 1,250 different Community Health Centers, and there are no restrictions to prevent that money from paying for abortions. On its website, Planned Parenthood claims that 850 Community Health Centers are run by Planned Parenthood affiliates.

Statistics show that the more money Planned Parenthood takes in, the more abortions it performs.

"Planned Parenthood is all about money, and its new abortion center is being positioned to take in many more millions of taxpayer dollars for abortions," Fischbach said. "It is a tragedy to see Planned Parenthood driving up its revenues at the expense of innocent unborn children and their mothers."

MCCL is Minnesota ’s oldest and largest pro-life organization with more than 70,000 member families and 240 chapters across the state. For more information about MCCL, visit www.mccl.org.

Ephesians 2:20

During difficult times, it is a blessing to be able to rest on the solid rock that is Christ. His Word and the truths we learn from it never change. With so much chaos going on, that solid rock is mighty comforting!

This week I coached my 45th labor. I never tire of seeing the miricle of birth. It inspires me to continue to fight for the lives of children who are threatened by abortion every day in Minnesota. However, the emotions around this ministry can be ovrwhelming: one day the sight of a baby born, the next day there may be sadness of not being able to stop a women from choosing abortion. Even though we know it is not not our responsibility when someone doesn't choose life, there is still a sadness.

That was what it was like this past week for me at MWC - a roller coaster of emotions, but thankfully I can rest on the solid rock of Christ!

Happy birthday, Mrs. Engen!

On Saturday, April 17th, Mrs. Virginia Engen was honored at an 85th birthday party given by her children. The family asked anyone who want to honor Virginia to give a gift to MWC in her name for the Amazing Grace Home. This thoughtful gesture is typical of Mrs. Engen, a women who has served on MWC's board of directors and has ministered faithfully for the Lord for many years. Over $400 was given in her name for the project with a case of copy paper and some diapers thrown in for good measure! Happy birthday, Mrs. Engen, and thank you for sharing your day with us!

Children of the Corn(huskers)

from Family Research Council

After two years of the most pro-abortion administration in history, more states are taking pains to relieve the unborn of theirs. Yesterday, Nebraska made good on its promise to drive a stake directly into the heart of the state's abortion business. With the overwhelming support of his legislature, Gov. Dave Heineman (R) signed two bills into law that could revolutionize the pro-life debate nationwide.

The first law requires women to undergo a mental health screening before they abort their babies. The second, which even the Associated Press called "groundbreaking," is an outright ban on abortion from 20 weeks on. Based on nine scientific studies, pro-life leaders argued that late-term babies can feel pain and, as such, should not be victims of abortion violence. Interestingly enough, the idea came about as a strategy for driving Dr. LeRoy Carhart, an ally of the late George Tiller, out of Nebraska. Carhart, one of the few who still perform barbaric late-term abortions, promised to carry on Tiller's gruesome legacy. Pro-lifers saw this as one way to force him to pack up and relocate.

Both laws are the first of their kind--but, given the interest of other states, probably not the last. Several governors have been eyeing Nebraska's debate to see if they should follow suit--or, more accurately, lawsuit. Irate at the prospect of losing business, national organizations like NARAL and Planned Parenthood have hunkered down to plot a major legal challenge. No matter how the courtroom drama unfolds, this is a sweeping victory in the court of public opinion. Even if judges manage to overturn the law, Nebraska has succeeded in sparking a national dialogue about fetal pain in a country that's reached a pro-life tipping point.

Whether by ultrasounds or the science of sensory development, the Cornhuskers are helping to tug on the sensibilities of more Americans. In a country where even criminals are executed humanely, this should trigger some key questions. If we spare these offenders the pain of their deaths, how much more should we be concerned about the suffering of these innocent and viable human beings? Barring some judicial intervention, the law is scheduled to go into effect this October.

Opportunities abound!

I am so excited about our volunteers!

Whether they are pastor's wives, former exotic dancers, college students, housewives, retirees, or high school students, I am blessed by their sacrificial service to share truth with our clients and callers. Each of them has the common desire to point people to the Lord, to speak the truth to individuals about abortion, and to support and encourage those who are in need of hope. Each of them has been willing to be an instrument in the hands of the Lord to minister tirelessly in Jesus' name. This week our volunteers had opportunities to share with people of all ages, from 14 to 45, and from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. All of the encounters were positive, even though there were disagreements about choices, and the individuals the volunteers served indicated that they would refer their friends to us in the future!

To all of you who volunteer, thanks for your faithfulness!

$363 in Baby Bottle Change!

Thank you to Jen and Dan Stahl and their small group for organizing a baby bottle drive for the Amazing Grace Home and for coming to the Center for a tour! This group of AMAZING folks collected funds in bottles and also brought diapers and wipes for our Center's HOPE program. One bottle was full of one dollar gold coins!

Pictured are Kristen Cruze, Jen Stahl, Heather Saffer, Shane Acker, Zach O'Neel, and Dan Stahl. Thanks for praying for the ministry and giving sacrificially so babies can be saved and men and women can hear the Gospel!

April Proclaimed Abortion Recovery Month

Saturday, April 10th, started with a press conference in front of Planned Parenthood in Highland Park to support SILENT NO MORE MINNESOTA's unveiling of its new billboard campaign offering compassionate help to women and men hurt by abortion. Earlier in the month Governor Tim Pawlenty had proclaimed April to be National Abortion Recovery Month. Here is the full text of his resolution:

Many Minnesota organizations offer support and recovery services to those who have had abortions or who have been impacted by abortion. Many organizations in Minnesota promote policies that reinforce a culture of life and hope. Abortion recovery programs help individuals heal by providing counseling, support groups, encouragement. Abortion Recovery Month encourages and promotes healing opportunities and raises awareness of the aftermath of abortion experienced by individuals and families.

My friend Ann Marie Cosgrove and other women gathered to offer hope and help to those who are suffering the aftermath of abortion with the forgiveness of Christ as the cornerstone for redemption.(photo attached)

I think it is interesting that abortion advocates swear up and down that abortion does not cause any emotional, physical or spiritual aftershocks, yet at www.afterabortion.com you can read the testimonies of hundreds of men and women who are struggling to deal with the effect of their abortions on their daily lives. There are a variety of ways individuals suffer after abortion but themes of regret, loss, anger, and spiritual damage are common.

If you are reading this and would like to know more about how to heal after abortion, men or women, please contact me at colleen@metrowomenscenter.org, and I can send you some resources or chat with you online.
