Now Planned Parenthood takes aim at the Girl Scouts?

Girl Scouts Distribute Planned Parenthood Sex Guide at UN Meeting
WARNING-ICKY STUFF AHEAD!

The World Association of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides hosted a no-adults-welcome panel at the United Nations this week where Planned Parenthood was allowed to distribute a brochure entitled “Healthy, Happy, and Hot.” The event was part of the annual United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).

The brochure, aimed at young people living with HIV, contains explicit and graphic details on sex, as well as the promotion of casual sex in many forms. The brochure claims, “Many people think sex is just about vaginal or anal intercourse… But, there are lots of different ways to have sex and lots of different types of sex. There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!” The brochure goes on to encourage young people to “Improve your sex life by getting to know your own body. Play with yourself! Masturbation is a great way to find out more about your body and what you find sexually stimulating. Mix things up by using different kinds of touch from very soft to hard. Talk about or act out your fantasies. Talk dirty to them.”

The brochure also tells students that national laws requiring HIV-positive people to reveal their status to their partner(s) “violate the rights of people living with HIV” and calls for advocacy to “change laws that violate your rights.” It explains, “There are many reasons that people do not share their HIV status. … They may worry that people will find out something else they have kept secret, like they are using injecting drugs, having sex outside of a marriage or having sex with people of the same gender.”

The Girl Scouts, along with the YWCA, have been co-moderating a young women’s caucus that included an “Intergenerational Conversation” side event on “universal access” and “reproductive health.” One recent Girl Scout project “aims at securing the right of women, men and adolescents aged between ten and twenty-five, to better reproductive and sexual health.”

Also at CSW last week, the heads of various powerful UN agencies including the UN Population Fund, UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), UN Children's Fund and the World Health Organization released a “UN Joint Statement” under the name of the “UN Adolescent Girls Task Force,” which calls for their agencies to promote and support programs “that empower … adolescent girls, particularly those aged 10 to 14 years.” One of the chief priorities for empowerment is ensuring access to “life-skills-based sexuality education, HIV prevention, and sexual and reproductive health.”

The New York Times recently reported that UN Population Fund had co-sponsored a very controversial curriculum with UNESCO, that included teaching children as young as five to be sexually active and training adolescents to advocate for abortion.

Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women of America told the Friday Fax, “Governments and NGOs should be aware of Planned Parenthood’s insidious plan to work with UN agencies and girls’ organizations in order to profit from encouraging kids to be sexually active.”

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.”
Matthew 5:13

LET'S BE READY TO DEFEND LIFE WHEREVER IT IS IN DANGER!
AND LET'S BE SALTY SALT AND BRIGHT LIGHTS
BECAUSE THE KIDS ARE COUNTING ON US!

I’m just saying . . .

Why do people say, "I would never have an abortion myself, but I would not tell anyone else she shouldn't have one" . . . and then if they see a parent abusing a 2-year-old in the grocery store, they intervene or call child protection?

Why do people say, "I would never have an abortion myself, but I would not tell anyone else she shouldn’t have one”? Aren't those kids worth protecting too, or are their own children the only ones who should be safe?

What's Next?

from Americans United for Life

Dear Friends:

After the last week of such intense work to try to keep funding and mandates for abortion out of health care, capped by the sudden collapse of “the Stupak bloc” which led to Sunday night’s tragic vote in favor of pro-abortion health care, the question on everyone’s minds right now is: what’s next? So I’d like to take a minute to tell you about AUL’s plans.

But first let me begin with a tremendous thank you for your support in the firestorm of this last week. The overwhelming response AUL received was deeply meaningful to the entire AUL team and a great encouragement. You are partners with us, so we work knowing that we are a team in the effort.

Together, we were able to really dig in during the lead up to the vote. AUL Action's “Life Counts” campaign was so significant that the New York Times and Politico both featured it.

I spent all of Saturday and much of Sunday at the Capitol while the AUL legal team was working at our offices near the White House and another part of our team was on the Hill making sure that the remaining “undecideds” had AUL’s legal analysis. In fact, the Washington Examiner ran an oped by our Sr. VP, Bill Saunders, about the Executive Order which was cited on the floor of the House by Congressman Sensenbrenner.

In the end, however, it came down to four votes. The bloc of Representatives led by Congressman Stupak, who had committed to casting a pro-life vote, failed to withstand the intense pressure from Speaker Pelosi and the President.

I cannot adequately express how heavy my heart was as I made my way back to the AUL office after Congressman Stupak’s press conference where he had announced that he cut an empty deal with the President.

When I arrived, however, I found our legal team already finishing up our newest piece of model legislation: a bill that would allow states to prohibit health plans offered through the Exchanges in their states from offering abortion coverage. I hope that encourages you as much as it did me!

We’ve already heard from legislators in Georgia and Kansas who want to get this legislation passed in their states. And let me assure you - we have more responses in the works, both on the state and the federal level. There is much more to come and a number of ways for us to respond pro-actively and aggressively. With AUL’s history working in the states with legislators across this country, and in the courts, we are uniquely positioned to respond to this new threat to Life. And we will.

On Monday, we spent some time together as a team, reviewing the events of the weekend; I told everyone assembled that we needed to focus on two central questions: What are we made of? And what do we believe?

The answer to the first question came in the form of that ready-to-roll piece of legislation. Our team may be tired, but we are relentless and we will press forward, creating a path toward restoring our culture of life.

The second question will keep us focused beyond this temporary setback. The answer is this: we believe that abortion is the great evil of our age. A surrender to complacency and discouragement is not an option. We are engaged in the great human rights struggle of our time. Our fight is waged with the abolitionist movement and the civil rights movement as our great heritage.

So let me conclude with a final reflection on that heritage. I had the privilege of beginning the day on Sunday at a non-denominational and bi-partisan service held in the Capitol Rotunda. It was awe-inspiring to sit in Statuary Hall, surrounded by statues of the great heroes of our history and the leaders of today.

The service was organized by a friend of mine and a friend of Life, Congressman Randy Forbes. We began by singing “Amazing Grace.”

This is a hymn that has deep meaning for many of us. I used it to sing my children to sleep all through the years when I paced the floor with restless babies. Those nights seemed endless then, but they are a sweet memory now.

Our times of challenge pass. History moves quickly and we have to seize the moment. “Amazing Grace” was written by the reformed slave-trader, John Newton, the friend and mentor of the great abolitionist, William Wilberforce. As I heard those beautiful words, sung a capella, in the soaring space of Statuary Hall, I knew a great peace about the day yet to unfold in front of us.

Of course the day ended in stunning disappointment. But Wilberforce and Newton knew those times too. Yet ultimately, they prevailed.

We have no promise that we will see the same triumphant outcome that they did. Although I believe that we will if we persevere.

In that time of unknowing, we press on. Last week my uncle sent me a column written by one of my favorite writers, Paul Greenberg:

Even if nothing practical comes of standing up for principle, something will have been accomplished. Future generations will know that this whole culture of death, of which abortion has been so central a part, was not imposed on America without resistance. Call it bearing witness. Voices in the wilderness have been known to prove prophetic. Some day, some way they will be heard. Or maybe not. But at least they will have been raised.

Or as Walker Percy [once wrote]: “To pro-abortionists: According to the opinion polls, it looks as if you may get your way. But you’re not going to have it both ways. You’re going to be told what you’re doing.”

Today I say this, to Nancy Pelosi and Cecile Richards: You may have gotten your way. But you’re not going to have it both ways.

Friends, come with me and let us bear witness. That is what’s next.

Yours for Life,

Charmaine Yoest, Ph.D. President & CEO Americans United for Life

PS: Please contact us at info@aul.org to get more information about how to get your state legislators interested in passing the model legislation which will enable YOUR STATE to opt-out of the abortion mandate in the new health care system. Our goal is to see states all across the country passing this ban.

The beauty of adoption

Fun visit with my birth son and his family! March 14th, 28 years ago I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy and released him into an open adoption. The beauty of open adoption is that we have had contact throughout his life, and this year we were invited to his birthday celebration! Here is a picture of me, Nick, and his adoptive mom, Jean.

This past weekend I went with a client of mine, who recently made an open adoption plan for her son, for a visit with her adoptive family and baby boy. She gave me permission to share the picture below with you all. What a blessing to walk through this process with this young woman! Please pray for her as she is now going to school and working hard to put her life in order. God is at work!

Book of James in action

I have been studying the book of James with a client as well as in our Sunday school class at church. My client and I were discussing trials and how to handle them with faith instead of running away from them. James 1:5 tells us to ask God for wisdom because He will give it to us for every situation.

Many of my clients experience trials because of previous choices they have made which have left lasting consequences in their lives such as sexually transmitted diseases that are not curable, children with fetal alcohol affect due the their drinking while they were pregnant with the child, broken family relationships--the list could go on forever. So when we come together to look at God’s Word for hope and help after salvation, we can find wisdom about how to handle the consequences of the past. One of the lies of the world is that we can always control the consequences of our actions; the truth is that the consequences can control us! Praise God for clients who apply God’s Word to their lives by being not only hearers of the Word but doers also in handling their pasts biblically! I need to work on this area also--a good reminder to keep growing in the Lord!

30 Baby Bottles Given Out!

I was so blessed by a young couple who is sharing the ministry of MWC with their small group at church. They came and got baby bottles to fill with coins for the Amazing Grace Maternity Home project, and they are going to participate in the Amazing Grace Walk on May 8th as a group! They are also coming to the office on Saturday for a tour! What fun to share what the Lord is doing with others. I think people like to do something more than just complain about abortion but instead do something positive to support women and men who are in need. I say, “Let’s build maternity homes not abortion clinics!” Sounds like a good bumper sticker!

Update: Health Care Bill

from StopTheAbortionMandate.com

This is the defining moment.

What happens over the next 72 hours will determine whether the largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade will be imposed on America -- or will be stopped.

The stakes have never been higher, as millions of innocent lives hang in the balance of the outcome of Sunday's expected vote on the health care reform bill.

Regrettably, policy experts and media outlets confirm that the bill still includes mandated abortion coverage and government funding of abortion -- and the House leadership steadfastly refuses to include the Stupak language that would bar abortion funding.

Planned Parenthood, America's largest abortion chain, supports the bill and argues it would "significantly increase access to reproductive health care."

Experts believe the House is less than 5 votes shy of passing the $984 BILLION bill that would give Planned Parenthood a massive, government-funded bailout.

This is our last chance to stop the abortion mandate.

No matter what you've done previously, here is what is critically needed RIGHT NOW:

1.) PRAY AND FAST: The vote in the House is expected to occur on Sunday. Between now and then, pray -- and fast, if you feel led -- like never before. Pray for the president. Pray for the Members of Congress who will be voting. Pray for the handful of pro-life Democrats who are under intense pressure to change their votes against life -- and who could make all the difference for preborn children.

2.) CALL YOUR U.S. REPRESENTATIVE TODAY: Urge your representative to "Vote AGAINST any health care bill that does not explicitly prohibit abortion coverage and government funding of abortion!" Even if you've called before, do this again RIGHT NOW. Need help finding your Representative? Go here to contact him or her TODAY: www.stoptheabortionmandate.com/call.

3.) E-MAIL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TODAY: E-mail your representative and urge him or her to "Vote AGAINST any health care bill that does not explicitly prohibit abortion coverage and government funding of abortion!" To find your representative and get information on how to send him or her an e-mail, go to www.stoptheabortionmandate.com/email.

Once you've called and e-mailed, make sure your family and friends do the same. (Don't forget to Facebook and tweet about it as well!)

Let's make sure that history remembers that we did everything we possibly could to "speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves" in this critical hour.

ACT NOW!

Abortion Mandate Moves Forward

from StopTheAbortionMandate.com

Abortion industry lobbyists are rejoicing following yesterday's announcement that their allies in the White House and Congress plan to use the controversial reconciliation process as a last-ditch effort to ram through a health care reform bill that would mandate abortion coverage and government funding of abortion.

The reconciliation process is being used to circumvent the need to get a two-thirds majority in the Senate to pass the bill -- following the upset Senate election in Massachusetts which broke the 60-vote stronghold. Under this process, the House would be asked to pass the abortion-laden Senate health care bill (that does NOT include the widely supported Stupak language that bars government funding of abortion.)

Then, both the House and Senate would vote for a companion reconciliation measure that would make changes in the first bill to gain the support of more Representatives and the White House. Only 51 votes would be needed to pass the additional reconciliation measure in the Senate.

President Obama said yesterday, "This is where we've ended up," and added that he looks forward "to signing this reform into law." He indicated his desire to sign the abortion-laden health care bill by Easter -- just a few weeks from now! This is the BIG ONE. Everything we've been working for comes down to this moment.

The current health care reform proposal ...

--> includes government funding of abortion.

--> imposes a brand-new "abortion fee" on taxpayers.

--> directs $11 BILLION in new funding to groups like Planned Parenthood -- the nation's largest abortion chain that took in over $349,000,000 in tax funding last year while aborting 305,310 babies.

--> would result in the largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.

The House of Representatives will vote on the bill first. If it passes there, it would then be signed by President Obama. Finally, it would go to reconciliation for changes to be made -- and where only 51 votes would be needed to pass it in the Senate. Therefore, the fight right now lies in the House -- where you can make the GREATEST impact today. If ever there was a time for every pro-life American to let their voice be heard, that time is NOW.

Here's what you -- and everyone you know -- need to do IMMEDIATELY:

1.) Call and e-mail your Representatives to clearly say "NO Abortion in Health Care!" Get their contact info online at http://stoptheabortionmandate.com/representatives.

2.) Write a letter to the editor. Your Representative and his/her staff read the newspaper daily, and a letter to the editor is a great way to ensure that your message is heard. Get sample letters online at http://stoptheabortionmandate.com/take-action/letters.

3.) Use every social networking tool to get the message out -- post status updates on Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace, asking friends and family to also send a clear message to Congress. Be sure to link to http://www.stoptheabortionmandate.com.

4.) Pray, pray, PRAY! Let's never forget the power of prayer. Pray that our leaders block government funding of abortion -- and that our movement is successful in protecting the unborn.

This is the final lap, so let's press forward to the finish line! Abortion is NOT health care under any circumstance -- and we should NEVER be forced to fund it.
